224 Hawken Drive, St Lucia, Queensland, Australia

Edamame, an unpretentious eatery resembling a Japanese hut, sits in the midst of a bunch of international nosh houses frequented by Uni students and staff on Hawken Drive.

Whilst it lacks the refinement of other Japanese restaurants it still dishes up decent cuisine in robust quantities that make it good value.

A dog-eared clipboard menu pronounces a dizzying array of choices from hot pots, ramen, sashimi, gyoza and noodles to set dinners ( a version of bento box). Priced from $15.90 to $21.90, the set dinners are served on crude wooden trays and come as a choice of katsu, teriyaki, temoura, Okinawa, salmon or vegetarian, and include rice, miso soup, salad and side dishes such as gyoza or spring rolls.
